CPS Family Assessments / CPS Investigations

After a report is screened in for allegations of abuse, neglect or dependency, it is assigned as a Family Assessment or a CPS Investigation.  A social worker looks into the allegations but also assesses the environmental, medical, physical, mental health, educational and emotional needs that keep children safe.

Other people with helpful information may be contacted for their input during this process. Family input, resources and safety planning are very important in keeping children safe. The purpose is to see if there is evidence of abuse, neglect, or dependency and identify needs in the home that affect child safety.
